(1) Background and Purposes

The international trend toward digital technology such as computers and networks is gaining momentum. As a consequence, we must be innovative in the realm of educational methodology and content. In Kochi Prefecture, the Dream Net Project is currently constructing an information network system reaching all of Kochi's elementary and secondary schools, in pursuit of the goals of "Tosa's [Kochi's] educational reform".

Regarding university education, particularly core curriculum subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and foreign languages, nowadays student ability is tending to fall, and the range of knowledge and ability is varying ever more widely. Universities have also seen a widespread introduction of computers and the network systems. In this light, it is time for us to change our basic ideas, methods, and educational content in order to make university education effective and useful.

Taking these circumstances and recent developments in information technology into our consideration, we have drawn up ourproject goal as follows:

(1) Supplement the educational system to help improve academic achievement at elementary, secondary, and university levels.

(2) In addition to contributing to the improvement of education at all levels in Kochi Prefecture, work to influence the entire country by reforming core curriculum subjects at this university.
