First year KUT usually have one strength (either English or mathematics).Less than half of Ss have a thorough grounding in English vocabulary and grammar.
KUT students are generally weak in listening.
Only 15% of Ss have strong motivation to improve their English knowledge and skills.
Many first year students lack the persistence for autonomous learning.
All students are commuters, 5 to 25 km each way, many by motorbike.
