   Biography

Dr. Makoto IWATA received B.E. and M.E. degrees in Electronic Engineering from Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, in 1986 and 1988 respectively. He received a Ph.D. degree in Information Systems Engineering from Osaka University in 1997.

He joined Department of Information Systems Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, in 1991, as an Assistant Professor. After that he joined Department of Information Systems Engineering, Kochi University of Technology, Kochi (KUT), Japan, in 1997, as an associate professor and became a professor in 2002. He is currently a vice-president of KUT and a professor of School of Informatics.

He was a Visiting Associate Professor at Research Center for 21th-Century Information Technology (IT-21 Center), Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan, form 2002 to 2005 and then he served a Visiting Professor at IT-21 Center from 2006 to 2009. In 2008, he spent at Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California - Irvine, USA.

His current research area includes low-power and dependable data-driven architecture and its self-timed circuit implementation. He is also interested in brain computing and its VLSI implementation.
