My G3 Powerbook

I have several computers, but my favorite is my G3 Powerbook, a laptop computer. I bought my powerbook to use with a projector, but now it's my main computer. It's beautifully designed and meets my needs well. I'm a writer, not a hacker, so I am quite happy with the aging operating system and software. I've had my powerbook for a few years now, and it has grown on me.

I have had my G3 powerbook for a couple of years, and in that time it has become my main computer. I bought my powerbook for using with a projector at conferences and in my lectures at KUT. Then, in 1999, my home computer blew up, and I started using the powerbook as my home computer. I liked it more and more as I got used to it as a home computer. Now my powerbook is a few years old and it is slow compared to newer computers, but there are many things I like about it anyway.

My G3 powerbook may be a little slow, but it is designed very nicely, I think. It's big for a laptop, but it has a big 14 inch screen, and though it's quite heavy for travelling,I like the look of the black case and the white Apple logo. It has interchangeable CD-ROM and ZIP drives, but no floppy drive. It's a quiet, stable machine, but form some reason the internal modem makes it wake up very slowly. I especially like the keyboard, which is almost full size, which is good for me because I'm a writer.

As a writer, I mostly use word processing and publishing software on my powerbook. It has two operatin systems, English Macintosh OS 8.6 and Japanese 8.5, which are a little old, but work fine for my needs. The software I use is even older. I use HyperCard 2.3.5, a 15-year old software for creating interactive multimedia, and Appleworks 5, which also very old-fashioned. For email, I use the free software Outlook Express 5, which is wonderful. For web browsing, I use the tiny iCab software as well as Netscape 4.7.

I feel like my powerbook fits me like a glove. Even though it's getting older, and some people say it's a little slow, I still use it more than any other computer. I've been using the Mac operating system and software for years, so I always know how to solve my problems. I can't imagine a better computer for my needs than my Macintosh G3 powerbook.
